Ullswater, Lake District – a Paradise Awaits
Ullswater is totally breath-taking and even using those words to describe it doesn’t seem to do enough justice! The lake is tranquil, the mountains which surround it hover majestically over and the villages dotted around the lake are beautiful, unique and an absolute pleasure to visit. What more could you want from a holiday?
Not Just for Walkers
A lot of people associate the Lake District with walking and justifiably so! The walks are out of this world and you can easily burn a stack load of calories setting off up the fells! That said, not everyone is in a position to be able to hike up mountains. There are plenty of things to do in Ullswater without getting your hardcore boots on! The Ullswater Steamers provide a relaxing day out for all the family – even your four-legged friends are welcome! From the comfort of the boat, you can experience all the beauty of Ullswater as you sail from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding and back again. There are refreshments on board and you can always stop in Howtown to break the journey up and have a little potter around, followed by a drink in the hotel there. The steamers also run from Glenridding to Aira Force – a stunning waterfall with beautiful surroundings which is a firm favourite with families. There’s a tea room there too!
Pooley Bridge, Patterdale and Glenridding
Pooley Bridge to the north of the lake is the first village you will come to when travelling from Dunkeld Cottage and Kirkby Thore. It’s a gorgeous little village with gift shops, convenience store, cafes by the river and several pubs. We particularly love the newly re-vamped Crown Inn in the village and we know you’ll love the setting!
Patterdale is our long time favourite place in the Lakes, being the first place we ever ventured to way back in 2007. The setting hasn’t changed, it’s absolutely stunning, peaceful and you have the wonderful welcome of the unique White Lion Inn waiting for you. There is also a hotel in the village and a convenience store which sells fantastic caramel shortbread!
Glenridding is a bustling Lake District town with picture-perfect hotels overlooking the lake, gift shops, tourist information, pubs, cafes and also the launch for the iconic Ullswater Steamers.
A perfect day out for the family has to include a boat ride and visiting these wonderful villages – you won’t be disappointed!
